HEALTH & SAFETY

Providing a safe environment is our most important responsibility. We have security gates and surveillance monitors to augment campus security. The Chandler School is not an open campus. We ask that anytime you visit campus during school hours you sign in at either the Lower School or Middle School offices and that you wear your visitor badge.

Transportation

Chandler families are expected to adhere to the prescribed traffic pattern. Failure to comply will result in communication from the school. On occasion the school enlists the assistance of the Pasadena Police Department for both traffic and parking enforcement. Please note that you are never permitted to park on the Prospect Blvd Bridge.

All Chandler families will be mailed two laminated cards imprinted with the last name of the family. These cards must be placed in the passenger side of the windshield of the car being used to transport students. Families with students in grades K-2 will receive green cards and families with students in grades 3-8 will receive white cards.

Armada Drive entrance: K–2 Grade
Students in K, 1 and 2 grades are the only students that may use the Armada Drive entrance for the morning drop off and the afternoon pick-up. Cars using the Armada Drive entrance must have green cards placed in the passenger windshield.

Families of students in K-2 with siblings in grades 3-8 are encouraged to use the Seco Street entrance with older students escorting younger students up the Tower to campus.

K-2 students may be dropped off at Armada Drive between 7:45-8:00 am. Pick-up times at the Armada Drive entrance: K-2 grade at 2:00 pm. Students in K-2 grade who are enrolled in the Afterschool program from 2:00-3:00 pm may picked up at Armada Drive entrance.

Driving to Armada
Approach the Armada Drive entrance from the north on Armada using La Mesa from the east. Exit on Prospect, either, north or south. (see the Armada Drive map) At dismissal times circle the block until students are ready for pick-up. The Armada Drive entrance is supervised in the morning from 7:45-8:00 am and in the afternoon from 2:00-2:20 pm and from 3:00-3:20 pm.

Seco Street Entrance: 3rd–8th Grade
Students in grades 3–8 must use the Seco Street entrance for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. Cars using the Seco Street entrance may have either green or white cards placed in the passenger windshield.

Approach the Seco Street entrance from the Lincoln and Mountain/Seco intersection (heading southwest). Cars are to pull forward into the drop-off zone at curbside along the street below the parking lot. Students are to exit and load vehicles only within the drop-off zone and use the stairs to reach the Tower. Supervision will be available between 7:45-8:00 am and 3:00-3:30 pm. Please be particularly cautious in approaching the school as traffic lines up for peak drop-off and pick-up times. Middle School carpools are asked to pick-up between 3:15-3:30 pm to help alleviate traffic back-up.

Please do not enter the middle school parking lot during pick-up or drop-off time unless you are visiting the school to meet with a teacher or administrator. Driveways need to be kept clear.

Late Pick-Up

For safety reasons all student pick-ups after 3:30 pm must be at the Armada Drive entrance. Students must not wait by themselves on Seco Street.

Emergency Procedures

In the event of an earthquake, fire or disaster, the school is prepared to take care of the children for up to 72 hours with an emergency supply of food, water, medical supplies and blankets. Children will remain on campus until all are accounted for and it is safe to leave. Staff will remain on campus until all children have departed.

Chandler School Policy on Sexual Harassment

What is Sexual Harassment?
  • It is unwelcome, unwanted sexual behavior that makes a student, teacher, or any member of our community feel uncomfortable. It is behavior directed at a person because of his or her sex.

  • Sexual harassment can be male to female; female to male; female to female; male to male.

  • There will be serious disciplinary consequences for harassment.

  • Sexual harassment can take many forms. It may be physical. For example: Purposely bumping or rubbing against a person; standing in someone’s way or standing too close; patting, hugging, or kissing; touching, grabbing, pantsing, or pinching.

  • It may be verbal. For example: Name-calling using sexual terms, talking about someone’s sexual behavior or sexual orientation. Making comments about a person’s body, body parts or rating people’s bodies; sexual jokes or “dirty” stories; spreading sexual rumors; pressure to go out on a date; whistles or rude sexual noises.

  • It may be visual. For example: Displaying sexual pictures or posters of males or females. Notes, letters, or graffiti that are sexually explicit or make comments on someone’s sexuality. Staring at a person’s body in a sexual way. Inappropriate gestures -winking, licking lips, tongue-wagging, crotch-grabbing or other body movements that are sexual in nature.
What to do if you are being harassed.
  • If it is safe for you to do so, tell the harasser that the behavior offends you and you want it stopped.

  • Tell someone. Talk to an adult you trust: a teacher, an advisor, a school administrator, and your parents.

  • Make sure it is reported to the school.

  • Keep a record of what happened, where it happened, and who witnessed it.
How you can fight sexual harassment.
  • Don’t harass or encourage others who sexually harass. Discourage the harasser and never join the harasser by taking part in any offensive behavior. Everyone needs to be a part of stopping this behavior. You may be considered just as responsible for your encouragement or inaction as the actual harasser.

  • Give everyone respect. Be sensitive to how others perceive your actions or words. Remember you are responsible for how you make others feel.

  • If a friend or classmate confides in you, listen with understanding. Encourage that person to take action.

  • Set a good example. Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Am I making the person feel uncomfortable?

Would I do the same things in front of a parent, teacher, school administrator, or other persons whom I respect or has authority?

Would I like it if someone did the same thing to my sister, brother, cousin, best friend, or to my parent?

Working together we can maintain an environment of respect and care for each other.
