HISTORY

In 1950 Thomas and Catherine Chandler founded the Chandler School with a vision to provide young students with innovative, inspired academic programs taught by caring, dedicated faculty. That year the doors were opened on the original campus in Altadena to fourteen eager children in grades four through eight. The School thrived from the start. With the help of forty parents, a down payment was raised to purchase the present Armada Drive property. The site at 1005 Armada Drive welcomed student for classes on September 20, 1958, with just two buildings and an athletic field. Over the next two decades the school expanded both physically and in enrollment to keep pace with the growing educational needs of its students and the community. By 1979, 366 students were being instructed in grades kindergarten through eight and most classrooms building were completed.

Today, the four and one-half acre campus extends from Armada Drive to Seco Street and Prospect Boulevard to Rosemont Avenue. With a sweeping view of the Arroyo Seco, the MacQuoid Athletic Field separtes the Middle School classrooms on the south and the Lower School classrooms on the north. The Lower School consists of kindergarten though fifth grade and the Middle School consists of grades six, seven and eight. Current enrollment is 420 students with a faculty of 48.
