Fifth Grade Ceramic Masks Displayed

Each fifth grader researched, drew and ultimately sculpted a personal mask in art class.
Each fifth grader researched, drew and ultimately sculpted a personal mask in art class. The research-based project exposed students to cultural mask-making traditions from around the world, including differences in symbolism, materials and color. Students eventually sculpted their own clay mask, then painted and varnished the fired clay. Some students added adornments - feathers, beads, raffia - and the whole class posed beneath their masks on Friday morning.
