Sixth Grade Races STEAM Project Solar Cars

Every grade at Chandler takes on a major STEAM challenge, and in sixth grade the test is to design a solar car.
Every grade at Chandler takes on a major STEAM challenge, a signature project-based learning experience that integrates science, technology, engineering, art and math into a real-world design challenge.

In sixth grade, the test is to design a solar car. Each student first designs a car with pencil and paper using exact dimensions and three different views. Students then work in groups of three or four to build, test, and modify a small solar-powered car. Cars are tested for accuracy, speed and power. Students must calculate gear ratios to help determine if their car can make it to the top.
