OTHER PROGRAMS ON CAMPUS

In addition to Camp and Enrichment, Chandler Summer Music,Movies by Kids and Chandler USA Chess Camp are programs hosted at Chandler School during the summer. These programs are open to anyone interested; however, Summer at Chandler does not in any way coordinate or administer registration or the fee structure for these programs. CHANDLER SUMMER MUSIC PROGRAM

Beginning Woodwinds, Flute or Clarinet / Grades 3-8/ Ms. Pedrini

Students will learn the basics of playing their instrument and reading music.  They will learn how to breathe and support the sound correctly to produce a good tone, play with correct posture, hand position, fingerings and tonguing.  Emphasis will also be on reading music, learning note values and developing good rhythm while playing separately and together in an ensemble.  

Students must provide their own instruments and purchase a book (to be specified at the 1st class meeting).

Intermediate Woodwinds, Flute or Clarinet / Grades 3-8 / Ms. Pedrini

Prerequisite :  At least 6 months prior playing experience on selected instrument

This class is designed for students who have already taken their instrument at the Chandler school, another organization or studied privately.  It is an extension of the beginning class with a more advanced level of music.  Emphasis will be on correcting and refining skills learned in Beginning Class while making music together. Students must provide their own instrument and purchase a book (to be specified at the 1st class meeting).

MOVIES BY KIDS (www.moviesbykids.com)

Movies by Kids is a creative program based in Calabasas and designed for teaching young students the exciting process of movie making and animation. This unique “hands-on” program offers children the opportunity to conceive, write, produce and direct their own animated movies and live action short films.

Description: “Lights…Camera…Action!” Movies By Kids is ready to make a movie where you’re the writer, director, and star! Young filmmakers will brainstorm their movie ideas, organize props, secure needed costumes, and scout for perfect locations. Once complete, the filming begins! All projects will be professionally edited on DVDs for all!

Grade Levels: Ages 7 and up

Description: Have you ever wanted to make your own movie like “Wallace & Gromit”? Join Movies By Kids, where students create, storyboard, and animate their own cut-out and clay characters using the art of stop-motion animation. Claymation starts by building an armature or “skeleton” for the character until all layers of clay are applied and the character is ready for the camera. Students will also operate digital video equipment, record a voice-over for their characters, and by the end of the wee k will have created at least two animated short films! All movies will be professionally edited and a DVD will be provided to every student in the program.

Chandler School Chess Camp

June 16-20, 2008

This summer, USA Chess is offering a fun and entertaining chess camp at Chandler School. Children ages 5-16, from beginner to advanced are all welcome! USA Chess is the largest and premier chess camp organizer for children in the United States. Their staff is comprised of the finest children’s chess instructors in North America. Registration options include: mornings, afternoons and all-day sessions. Beginners through advanced are welcome. Campers experience chess instruction and play in a fun filled environment designed to improve their skills whether they are interested in casual or competitive chess.
