Moana JR. Helps Students Harness the Power Within

On Saturday, July 2, Chandler and local Pasadena students performed Moana JR. - a thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age musical that follows Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage.
Moana and the legendary demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as both learn to harness the power that lies within.

This two-week, intensive camp allowed students ages 7 to 14 to also harness the power within! Students in the program have the opportunity to sing all the beloved songs from the film written by Tony®, GRAMMY, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina. They also learned to sing in a new language and learn all about Samoan and Hawaiian culture.

In the course of nine days, students auditioned, learned, and performed the full musical from start to finish. They learned exciting dance numbers, wore full costumes, and had professional sound and lighting facilitated also by students. Although some younger students didn't have previous experience, Moana JR. gave students an experience that will challenge them and inspire them to work hard and collaborate as a team.

If your children don’t have a plan for the next two weeks, we invite you to join the cast for the second session of Summer@Chandler. Please visit www.chandlerschool.org/summer for more information. No previous experience is required and every student will have a moment to shine. The next Moana Jr. Intensive Workshop runs from July 5 to 15 and there are still a few slots left! For more information, contact Summer@Chandler Director Alycia Brown at abrown@chandlerschool.org. With empowering messages of bravery and selflessness, Moana JR. is sure to bring out the hero within each student.
