Head of School's Message: February 14

After 18 years of exceptional service to Chandler School, Middle School Director Jill Bergeron has announced that she will be leaving at the end of this school year to complete her doctorate at Vanderbilt University, and to open her own change management consulting firm.
In her letter, Jill wrote: “I have enjoyed my time at Chandler from teaching eighth-grade history to meeting my husband to sending my child here. There is no place more special to me than this school.

I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given to lead. During my time here, I have learned to:
  • Lead multiple strategic planning committees
  • Implement new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives
  • Implement new standardized testing programs
  • Lead our accreditation processes
  • Institute curriculum mapping
  • Implemented making and project-based learning
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Chandler, and I am now ready for a bigger canvas on which to work. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to grow as an educator. It is time for me to grow beyond Chandler. Based on all I have learned, I am prepared to launch my career as an educational consultant. While I am not certain of exactly where my path will lead me, I will continue to be part of the community as the parent of a member of the Class of 2028 and as the spouse of a Chandler faculty member.”

Jill has had a remarkable career at Chandler. She started out as an eighth-grade history teacher known for her rigorous binder checks and for teaching students to think critically and to attend to detail. She spearheaded the adoption of Chandler’s one-to-one laptop program in 2008 through advocacy and example. Before assuming the position of Middle School Director, Jill was Chandler’s Middle School Librarian and Technology Integration Specialist. Jill’s impact on Chandler’s program will be a lasting legacy of excellence from which her successor will be expected to grow.

A search for a new middle school director has been launched today. Chandler has retained the services of Cal West Educational Services to assist with the process. I will be working with a committee of middle school faculty to find Chandler’s next middle school director. A parent committee will be invited to interview finalists towards the end of the process.

Most sincerely,
John Finch, Head of School
