Adam Gidwitz Visits Chandler Middle School

Chandler Middle School students gained inspiration and practical writing tips from visiting author Adam Gidwitz, the bestselling writer of A Tale Dark and Grimm, In a Glass Grimmly, and The Grimm Conclusion, as well as The Empire Strikes Back: So You Want To Be A Jedi?, and Newbery Honor winning novel, The Inquisitor’s Tale.

All students were assigned one of Gidwitz’s immensely-entertaining and witty novels as summer reading, and came prepared with questions and books for autographs. Gidwitz, a self-described “rule breaker” in middle school, told students that he realized at a young age all he needed to be happy was his imagination.

During his visit to Chandler, Gidwitz helped students in Mrs. Laird’s writer’s workshop structure their own adventure stories, answered questions and ate pizza with the sixth grade book club, and explained his creative inspiration for the Grimm series of novels in an all-school assembly. "His sense of humor is the best!" said one enthusiastic young book fan.
