Chandler Sixth Graders Build Solar Cars

All students at Chandler Middle School take on a STEAM project each year, applying their classroom learning in science, technology, engineering, art and math to solve a real-world challenge.
Sixth graders in J.J. Newman’s earth science class work together to design, build, test and modify solar-powered cars which can successfully perform specific driving challenges. The projects are an opportunity for students to show not just what they know, but what they can do with what they know.

In addition, students practice the important soft skills of collaboration, creativity, perseverance and problem-solving to improve the final product.
