Caring and compassion are cornerstones of a Chandler education. Students at Chandler learn to see themselves as interconnected members of many communities - their family, their school, their city, and the world.
Students learn by first-hand experiences that they can and should help to make the world a happier, better place. The Chandler community serves together joyfully and generously in countless ways during the year, sometimes in a classroom activity, and many times in whole-school projects.
On a weekly basis, new service opportunities are made available, ranging from making bracelets for soldiers to helping clean up the Arroyo. Chandler welcomes and encourages whole-family participation during many service events.
Chandler's biggest service event, Big Service Day, takes place on a Saturday. Students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and friends join together to serve nonprofits including Union Station and My Friend's Place. Volunteers pack lunches, snack bags, hygiene kits, make cards of support, run a bake and craft sale, collect donations of magazines, art supplies, clothing and more.
In the Lower School, students in grades 3-5 are invited to take a leadership role in community service and may join the Clovers, a service club that meets at lunch and occasionally after school.
In the Middle School, students may volunteer at a local Head Start preschool where Chandler students have volunteered for over 30 years. In addition, all eighth graders pursue a five-month service project with a local nonprofit of their choosing.
